Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that is responsible for the administration of several key federal healthcare programs. In addition to Medicare and Medicaid, CMS oversees the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Health Insurance Portability and Accountabiliity (HIPAA), and Clinical Laboaratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), among other services.
